Market Sectors

Sectors We ServiceTailor made solutions to fit your needs

We have extensive experience across a wide range of market sectors. Just some of those are detailed below. If your sector does not appear in this list, please contact us to see how we can help you.

General

We have extensive experience providing a range of services to a very broad range of market sectors. Whatever your needs, it is likely we have the skills and experience to deliver exceptional results. Below is an extensive, but not exhaustive list of fields we have experience in. Others not listed include prisons and theatres.

Commercial

We have designed a wide range and variety of commercial office spaces including fitouts, refits and new builds, low rise and high rise.  The shapes, forms and uses of office space are as varied as the people and organisations that use them. Therefore design solutions also need to be just as varied. We have experience working with clients from business, central and local government, defence, manufacturers and many more areas.

Residential

We have been involved in a number of large residential facilities including apartment buildings, residential care homes and retirement villages. These sorts of large multi-dwelling buildings require extra special attention to prevention of fire spread, as a number of high profile tragedies overseas attest. Here, possibly more than anywhere else, excellent teamwork and attention to detail through design and construction are critical to life safety.

Residential facilities also often demand very careful coordination of services because space is usually very tight.

We don’t tend to get involved with private residential projects.

Retail

We have provided services for a range of retail facilities from individual shop fitouts through to large retail outlets and shopping malls. Clients have included smaller retailers, banks, supermarkets and large retail chains. Services have included new builds, refits and assessments.

Industrial

We have provided services to a number of industrial and process clients. Sectors have included pharmaceuticals, the food industry and transport. Services have included specialist extract systems, process ventilation, heating and cooling.

Hospitality

We have provided services for hotels, restaurants, fast food outlets and bars. We have a lot of experience with kitchen ventilation, gas supply and commercial waste systems. Many larger chains have very detailed specifications for their facilities. We are well versed in translating those to the particular project at hand.

Swimming pools

As noted elsewhere, we have very extensive experience with design of swimming pools and aquatic features including the likes of hydroslides and rapid rivers. We believe that we stand out from others in this area because of our particular attention to detail and because we have studied many aspects of swimming pool design from a number of angles to find optimum solutions. Swimming pool complexes offer prime opportunities for applying holistic principles to improve the performance of multiple services.

Stadia and sports facilities

We have been involved with the design of a number of iconic New Zealand stadia, including Westpac Stadium in Wellington and the west stand of the FMG Stadium in Hamilton. We have also designed a number of indoor sports facilities including gyms, basketball courts and squash courts. In some facilities such as gyms, significant airflow can provide beneficial comfort for active gym-goers. For other activities, such as badminton, air movement would be detrimental. We understand what is needed in each case.

Laboratories

We have been involved in the design of a number of laboratory facilities for food companies, research facilities and education providers. Particular understanding of the impact and design requirements of fume cupboards is usually central to these facilities. One of the laboratories we designed included areas of Level 3 containment.

Data centres and server rooms

Server rooms and data centres in particular have very specialised requirements around delivery, reliability, efficiency and flexibility of systems. Computing is developing at such a rapid rate with the onset of cloud computing, virtual reality, driverless cars and the like putting more and more demands on data systems and networks. It is more critical than ever that the right cooling solutions be delivered with the right levels of redundancy.

In these respects personal experience needs to be teamed up with the particular specialist experience within CIBSE and ASHRAE. We have both experience in these areas and access to the latest trends and advice from people around the world who are renowned specialists in data centres.

Education

We have done a lot of work with schools and universities, from minor renovations and extensions through to complete new campuses. We have worked on projects around the Wellington region and as far afield as Invercargill, Taihape and Auckland.

Our work has included mechanical and hydraulic services for the full range of educational facilities including workshops, labs, gyms, technical, computer and music spaces.

Historic buildings

Generally the reason historic buildings are so important is because of their form and style and their particular historic significance. In these buildings great care is needed to hide services from view as much as possible and avoid compromising architectural or stylistic features. We have experience in working closely with historic architects in trying to blend or hide services from public view.

This process often presents particular spatial challenges. However with modern three dimensional modelling techniques we can now provide solutions with much more accuracy and assurance.
